Shipyard Gebr. Kooiman BV has delivered a new mussel fishing boat which operates on the rough waters off the coast of Ireland. It is the second of a series of three vessels. The hull was built in Poland at the Stocznia Kozle Serwis shipyard, and then transported to the shipyard in Zwijndrecht for further fitting out.
The Deirdre has a long and slender shape, but has a large loading capacity of 235 m3. There is a further 45 m3 wash hold for the caught mussels. This system was supplied by W. Bakker. Catching is done with two pivoting arms with Maaskant Bruinisse M120EP6 mussel winches, together with a Sempress remote control.
Propulsion and electricity come from Caterpillar, consisting of Twin Cat 3412E TA diesel engines, 349 kW each for propulsion, and a separate Cat SR4, 506kVA generator. The propulsion engines drive Van Voorden five-bladed propellers through a Reintjes WAF 344L gearbox. The double propulsion is ideal for improved manoeuvrability in the shallow waters.
