Veerhaven IV ‘Neushoorn’ is the fourth pusher boat built by Shipyard Gebr. Kooiman BV for ThyssenKrupp Veerhaven BV. Veerhaven IV was designed to navigate with a total of six barges on the inland waterway route between Rotterdam Europort and Duisburg in Germany. This powerful pusher boat is a copy of the previous pusher boat, ‘Veerhaven III – Waterbuffel’.
It measures 40 metres in length and 15 metres in breadth. The vessel has a triple screw propulsion system with three nozzles and three fishtail rudders. In order to achieve optimum manoeuvrability when navigating astern with six barges, the vessel is equipped with two bow thruster units.
The accommodation is located in the double-layer superstructure and consists of nine cabins for the crew, including a cabin for the owner, each with its own sanitary facilities. A fitness room, mess room with lounge facilities, galley and a changing room are also present. With a view to meeting the strict noise level requirements of ThyssenKrupp Veerhaven BV, the accommodation is spring-mounted on pneumatic shock absorbers.
For this order, all activities were carried out by Kooiman Marine Group. From design to fitting out, everything was done in-house. Sections were built by Shipyard Kooiman Hoebee and Shipyard Kooiman Van Os. The electrical system was done by Kooiman Ship Electric, while Kooiman’s own carpentry department delivered the entire accommodation.
