The hybrid tugboat ‘Sil-Jeske-B’ was launched on 14 September 2015. Koedood BV in Hendrik Ido Ambacht commissioned Shipyard Gebr. Kooiman BV in Zwijndrecht to build this vessel. The end user of the tugboat is BMS Seatowage BV. The propulsion engines and generator sets as well as the electric motors and generators were supplied by Koedood.
Besides the customary diesel engines, the propulsion of the vessel also uses electric motors which can drive the propellers. A combined diesel direct plus electric drive delivers the maximum bollard pull of the vessel.
The electric drive also enables the vessel to work at low speed and perform stand-by activities with one or two diesel generator sets, without using the main engines. Apart from being economically attractive, it is also a considerable environmental improvement. This drive also enables the vessel to manoeuvre much more precisely than is possible with the conventional diesel direct propulsion, making it possible to operate more efficiently and reducing the risk of damage.
The hull (supplied by Koedood) was widened and lengthened and equipped with a new superstructure and aluminium wheel house. Following the lengthening and widening, the dimensions of the Sil-Jeske-B became 23.95 x 8.00 x 2.80 metres, with a bollard pull of 24 tonnes. This realizes an end product which has been equipped fully to the customer’s requirements and is one of the most advanced vessels in this class.
