Shipyard Kooiman Hoebee was commissioned by VOF T.W. Geneuglijk to build the Wilhelmina Arina. The keel of the hull was laid in the Bomex-4 shipyard, newly established in 2008, in Zrenjanin, Serbia. The design of the 110 x 11.45 metre vessel bears the signature of Van Duijvendijk.
The new vessel had to become a fast, fair lined and lightweight ship, with a loading capacity of 2,525 tonnes and draught of 3 metres. With the hopper full – 3,449 tonnes and push bow in the water – the vessel notched up 20.5 kmh on the gauge, thanks to the 1700 Mitsubishi from Koedood and the entirely round Wärtsilä nozzle combined with a Wärtsilä tip rake propeller. The Wilhelmina Arina also has a special underwater coating, a steering grid by Van Ballegooy & De Groot and the rudders are at a greater distance from each other than is customary.
The systems and the generator of the engine room have the colours of Mitsubishi, showing that harmony in colour gives a professional impression. Electrotechnisch Bureau Keijzer-van den Heuvel was responsible for the electrical components of the construction, partly using Oechies equipment.
At the front is the enormous steering grid with the 638 HP Scania engine. This engine room retains its height because there is no raised aluminium floor.
On the large foredeck with push bow, the bulwark runs behind the bollard casing into the gangway. The midship is raised and has 20 tonnes more iron than a straight hull, but is much stronger.
The cargo has a Blommaert cover system. EBR supplied the wheel house, and Kooiman Hoebee’s own carpenters lined it with teak. The design, finish and furniture created are of extremely high quality.
