Shipyard Gebr. Kooiman BV, located in Zwijndrecht, has delivered a new multi-purpose support vessel, Zwerver III, to HvS Dredging Support in Harlingen. The ship is a sister ship to Zwerver I. Zwerver III is 35 metres long, seven metres longer than her predecessor, and is built to DP-1 standard. Zwerver III furthermore has an extremely shallow draught of no more than three metres.
The design of Zwerver III is an example of the successful collaboration between a shipbuilder and the customer. Kooiman Engineering decided on this occasion to use the original design of the owners as the basis, and developed this further in the light of the operational experiences of the customer. Collaboration and exchange led to a successful result.
The result is a multi-purpose DB offshore support vessel, one of the largest and most powerful in its class, given that it measures less than 500 GT. It is a Bureau Veritas I Hull Mach Tug Unrestricted Navigation AUT-UMS, Dynapos 1 AM/AT Ice Class 1C registered vessel, targeting the renewable energy and offshore markets. As such, the vessel is capable of providing general support and anchor handling work, diving support, supply activities, Single Point Mooring (SPM) buoy installations, hose and cable handling and survey and ROV operations.
A great deal of thinking and planning went into the creation of this large work ship, which becomes evident in many of the functions applied which have never been seen before on this type of vessel. Unlike its predecessor, Zwerver III has three levels of accommodation decks. The superstructure is positioned on the port side of the vessel and the fuel tanks on the starboard side as counterweight. The tanks can hold 260 cubic metres of fuel and 50 cubic metres of fresh water.
