Shipyard Gebr. Kooiman BV built the twin screw tugboat for the Dutch towing company Hubregtse - v.d. Berge V.O.F. and Rederij Engelsman Towage & Salvage, Makkum. The tugboat bears the name ‘Dutch Partner’ and is a multi-purpose tugboat designed for towing services, pushing and various port activities. The tugboat was designed by Kooiman Engineering in collaboration with technical agency Technisch Bureau Gommers, based on the technical requirements of the clients.

The vessel was built in a very short delivery time of only five months, actually only four months after the signing of the contract for delivery. The engineering, the construction of the steel and aluminium hull, the fitting out, the cables and pipes, and the entire interior carpentry work for the accommodation and the wheel house, including furniture, were done in-house.

The most important design features are the draught of a maximum of 2.5 metres in combination with a bollard pull of 30 tonnes, and a large fuel and water storage capacity for performing the tasks. The design and construction of the tugboat fully satisfy the rules and regulations of Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, the class + 100 A1 TUG LMC UMS and the Netherlands Shipping Inspectorate.

Accommodation is provided for six operational crew members, but there are 8 berths in total. The living quarters consist of the cabin for the captain, the cabin of the chief engineer, two separate rooms for the crew members and two one-person cabins. The bathroom, galley and mess room are on the forecastle deck. The accommodation has air-conditioning, while the entire vessel is equipped with a noise-reducing floating floor system. Mechanical extraction is provided for the sanitary facilities, the galley and the storage rooms. Supply ventilation is installed in the engine room.

In the wheel house, the most important control console is located at the front and was designed for operation by a single person. The console contains control elements for the main engines and gearboxes, engine speed indicators, emergency stop, group alarm, general alarm and rudder controls. Radio Holland Rotterdam supplied the entire range of navigation and communication systems.
