BNR 194 - Albatros

twin screw dry bulk / container ship for inland navigation

Kooiman Marine Group was commissioned by VOF Cees de Waardt to build the newbuild hopper barge Albatros. The special feature of this vessel is that it has all the familiar properties of a modern ship by Van Duijvendijk, which has been incorporated in Kooiman Hoebee. The name is continued under ‘v/h Joh. van Duijvendijk’.

The Albatros measures 81.30 x 9.40 x 3.40 metres, has a depth of 3.62 metres, loading capacity of 1,728 tonnes and a cubage of 1,140 m3. The air draught was reduced by dropping the wheel house around 80 centimetres into the accommodation, but that does not cause any loss of space in the living area. The space left under the wheel house is just a little lower.

The hull was built in Kozle, Poland. The designs of Joh. Van Duijvendijk are well-known for their accurate economic proportions, such as a relatively high loading capacity with a relatively low ship resistance. A high level of finishing guarantees low maintenance costs. The shipyard specializes in the construction of customized vessels and has delivered 25 newbuild ships since 1995, including hopper barges, crane ships, edible oil ships with stainless steel tanks, but also standard container ships.

At Kooiman Hoebee in Dordrecht the required production equipment and craftsmanship are well represented within the company. Unlike other fitting-out locations, most of the fitting out is done by our own people. This offers many advantages with respect to quality control, planning and the ease of a single point of contact for the client. The shipyard in Dordrecht, for example, has its own well-equipped carpentry workshop and a modern turning shop. This enabled us to produce the complete propeller shaft system and install it together with the engine room systems; our own carpenters supplied the entire interior carpentry work.

The Albatros is equipped with two spud poles, which were supplied by Habeco Hydrauliek and already installed in Kozle. The propulsion is provided by a Mitsubishi main engine of 953 HP, supplied by Koedood Dieselservice. ADS-Van Stigt supplied the ZF Marine reverse gears with output for the steering pump, Hoogendijk Scheepselectro delivered the electrical system, while Alphatron Marine supplied the complete nautical services.
