CUSTOMER-SPECIFIC DESIGN AND BUILD PER SECTOR

With its multiple locations, Kooiman Marine Group has a long history in the various facets and sectors of shipbuilding. This extensive track record has resulted in a great deal of experience within the group. These contribute to the technical and innovative developments that are applied in the construction industry. In order to continue to serve the customer as well as possible, solutions are proactively managed and the trends in the sector are closely monitored.

INLAND SHIPPING

developing and building inland vessels at Kooiman Marine Group
The Netherlands has more than 5,000 km of navigable waterways. The Dutch inland shipping fleet consists of more than 7,000 inland vessels, making it the most modern fleet in the world and by far the largest in Europe.

The Netherlands is therefore a leader in the sector in Europe. For example, on the Rhine more than half of the ships sail under the Dutch flag. The sector is characterized by the large number of small (family) businesses. Larger shipping companies are also active.

Kooiman Marine Group has large modern facilities to optimally serve inland shipping. Kooiman Marine Group is an independent group of multi-disciplinary shipbuilders with great problem solving skills, technical expertise and an eye for quality. For inland shipping, Kooiman Marine Group is an excellent partner that offers fast, efficient and high-quality services, designed to provide the complex customer-specific demand with innovative customized solutions.

TREND INLAND SHIPPING

The sector must take into account further tightening of environmental regulations in the coming years, including in the field of CO2 emissions. Alternative fuels such as LNG are on the rise. A greening of the fleet is therefore a trend to take into account. Kooiman Marine Group now has broad experience in the field of hybrid installations, liquefied natural gas (LNG) systems, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems and life-cycle management.

push-towing vessels

Kooiman Marine Group has built up an extensive track record in push-towing vessels. Kooiman Marine Group has several designs of pusher boats that are suitable for Western European and South American waters. All approvals from ADN, CCNR and Lloyds Register have been obtained for one design based on LNG propulsion. In addition, Kooiman Marine Group has developed several innovations in the field of hull design, retractable flanking rudders, propeller shaft seals and twin speed coupling winches.

Kooiman Marine Group has built four vessels for pushing vessels on the Rhine. In addition to new construction, they have an extensive track record of converting and renovating push boats. For example, a number of ships have been renovated to extend their lifespan. A number of ships have been classified for South America. These ships are specially equipped with extra bunker capacity and widened to limit the draft.
Kooiman Marine Group is also a supplier of push-towing components such as anchor and coupling winches, bollards and rudders.

TREND push-towing vessels

Push boats consume a lot of fuel, especially when sailing upstream. Pusher boats therefore cause relatively high emissions of particulate matter. Due to stricter regulations regarding the emission of particulate matter, this sector will eventually have to switch to other energy sources, such as LNG. Kooiman Marine Group has developed a design for an LNG-powered pusher boat in anticipation of this.

Dredging

Dredgers are an important sector for the Kooiman Marine Group. Kooiman Marine Group has years of experience in the design and construction of dredgers and other work vessels. In recent years, split hopper barges, dredging pontoon and trailing suction hopper dredgers have been designed, built and converted.

FOR THE DREDGING SECTOR, KOOIMAN MARINE GROUP SUPPLIES:

  • Ship designs: trailing suction hopper dredgers, whether or not dry discharge installations, dredging pontoons, split barges
  • New build ships
  • Conversions
  • Dry-loose installations
  • Repair and maintenance of dredgers, pontoons, split barges
  • Repair and maintenance of dredging equipment

TREND Dredging

Due to internationalization, the hulls of complex ships are built in low-wage countries and then completed in the Netherlands with all technical and innovative components. A new development is the conversion of existing ships, which no longer perform their actual function profitably, to other functionalities, including dredging and sand extraction. Kooiman Marine Group is currently developing a conversion project here.

OFFSHORE - WIND

Kooiman Marine Group has realized various designs of offshore supply and other work vessels in the Offshore - Wind segment. The following projects have been delivered for this growth market:

  • Wanderer I
  • Wanderer II
  • Wanderer III

Kooiman Marine Group designs and builds (seagoing) pontoons in various sizes. In addition, Kooiman Marine Group supplies special accommodation containers that can be placed on deck and are equipped with sleeping quarters to temporarily accommodate more crew.

TREND OFFSHORE – WIND

A striking trend is the increasing interweaving of the offshore sector with the other maritime sectors. This mainly concerns hydraulic engineering, maritime shipping, shipbuilding, maritime suppliers and maritime services. An important guiding development is formed by offshore renewables, in particular wind energy, and the development of services related to the installation and maintenance of wind turbines at sea. Keeping up with this trend, Kooiman Marine Group has developed various offshore-related work vessels and continues to innovate for its customers.

SEA SHIPPING

Shipping is an important sector for Kooiman Marine Group and this is reflected in the development of various seaworthy work ships, cargo ships and tugs. In addition, the infrastructure of the three yards has been set up to serve this sector properly for repairs and maintenance.

TREND SEA SHIPPING

The shipping industry must take into account a further tightening of environmental regulations, including in the field of ballast water treatment, CO2 reduction and noise reduction. Kooiman Marine Group is an independent partner in this and supplies and installs various ballast water management systems, SCR systems, scrubber systems and LNG systems. There are also large ramp facilities of 150 meters available on the inland waterway, so that seagoing vessels can also be slipped and docked for maintenance and repair at a competitive rate.

FISHING

Fishing is important to Kooiman Marine Group. Kooiman Marine Group has extensive experience in the construction, renovation and conversion of fishing vessels. Especially in the shellfish sector (mussels and oysters), a "Kooiman" cutter is a household name. Dozens of ships are now sailing, which have been designed and built by Kooiman Marine Group. In addition to the mussel cutters, there are also designs for oyster and shrimp ships.

In addition to new construction, Kooiman Marine Group has an extensive track record in the field of conversion, conversion, repair and maintenance of fishing vessels. Numerous projects have been carried out for both the shellfish sector and the North Sea fishery.

THE WORK PERFORMED MAINLY CONSISTS OF:

  • broaden
  • extend
  • new midships
  • renew flat and double bottom
  • refurbishment of engine rooms and re-engines
  • manufacturing new masts and trestles

The complete package is provided for all renovations, such as electrical adjustments, carpentry, hydraulic adjustments, piping and additional mechanical work for rudders and propeller shafts. Kooiman Marine Group supplies the engineering in-house. With a view to sustainability, Kooiman Marine Group develops alternative propulsion systems and manufactures and installs lifting arms and spud poles on mussel cutters in-house, making the vessels more suitable for use of mussel seed capture systems and hanging culture. Soil disturbance is considerably reduced compared to traditional catching systems.

TREND FISHING

Significant changes are underway in the North Sea fishery. The landing obligation for bycatch does not make it any easier for fishermen. Kooiman Marine Group develops solutions for this together with customers and, if possible, equips the ship for other catches, so that the fishing industry can remain a healthy sector in the long term.

Harbour equipment

The Netherlands has a unique and extensive network of waterways and ports. Kooiman Marine Group is a supplier of Kooiman Port Facilities (formerly Van Eijk Port Facilities). Sustainability, safety and the prevention of noise nuisance are important criteria that modern port design must meet. Kooiman Marine Group designs, builds and supplies various pontoons, patented sound-absorbing pile brackets and resilient fendering panels for low-noise pontoons and gangways in any desired size and load.
